Important Reminders:

1.     Spring 2021 Priority Registration period is October 26 thru November 13. These dates are different from those previously stated. There is a secondary window when all students can register starting Monday, November 16 with an end date being confirmed once the Spring 2021 calendar is set. The Spring online course catalog is tentatively scheduled to be available between October 12-14.

4.     The Lewis Honors College is welcoming applications for Upper Level Admission (ULA) and hosting their first ULA information session on Tuesday, September 15 from 4:00 to 5:00 via Zoom. Students in the Honors College have access to expanded course offerings, faculty mentorship, scholarships, and more. 1.     UK Counseling Center is offering Tools for Tough Times online sessions Tuesdays at 4:00 and Fridays at 10:00. To register via Zoom, click here.

2.     The UK Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives is offering small group mentoring sessions online Wednesday, September 16 from 12:00 to 1:00 to connect undergraduate, graduate and professional students of color for academic support, encouragement and professional development. For more information, and to RSVP, click here.

3.     Students are encouraged to participate in the Hack-A-Thon on Saturday, September 19 to propose solutions to the forefront challenges brought by COVID-19. Student teams must register by Wednesday, September 16 to enter this one-day event, join in on the workshops and the chance to win cash prizes. 4.     The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is designed to help students develop their leadership skills and explore leadership opportunities on campus. 8-week program begins Wednesday, September 16 and will meet over Zoom every Wednesday at 5:00. For more information, and to enroll, click here.

5.     Learn about student organizations and getting involved on campus at the virtual Fall Involvement Fair on Monday, September 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. For more information, and to RSVP, click here.

6.     Ping Pong Ball Drop on Monday, September 14 from 10:00 to 4:00 at Barker Plaza to potentially win prizes and enter giveaways. For more information, and to RSVP, click here.

7.     UK SAB is hosting "Make and Take" on Tuesday, September 15 from 12:00 to 2:00 at Barker Plaza. Students will be making their own personalized white board to hang in their apartment or residence hall. For more information, click here.

8.     All students are invited to Cross Cultural Crafting at Barker Plaza on Thursday, September 17 from 5:00 to 7:00. Attendees will be making unique masks native to many East African Cultures and enjoying free Ethiopian food. For more information, and to RSVP, click here.

9.     The annual Main Street Clean Sweep Volunteer Event is Saturday, September 19 from 9:30 to 1:00. Students will meet at the Gatton Student Center to depart for Cold Stream Park where they will work with Bluegrass Greensource to clean up Cane Run River. Fellowships, Internships, Research, and Job Opportunities:

1.     The Department of Geosciences at Georgia State University is recruiting two students for fully-funded M.S. assistantships under the supervision of Dr. Taylor Shelton, beginning in either the Spring or Fall of 2021. Both assistantships come with a full tuition waiver and a $15,000 annual stipend for two years. Students should be interested in critical human geography and GIS to understand urban social and environmental inequalities, those with particular interests related to housing inequality and/or the Atlanta metro region are especially encouraged to apply. If you are interested, email Dr. Shelton (jshelton19@gsu.edu) with your CV/resume, a brief statement describing your interests, and a sample of your written and/or cartographic work.

b.     November 1st is the last day to apply for December 2020 degree. 

c.     Late/Drop Add: contact the Instructor of the course and ask for permission to late add the course (via email).

1.     UK Counseling Center is offering Tools for Tough Times online sessions Tuesdays at 4:00 and Fridays at 10:00. These sessions will teach students coping strategies to add to their self-care and mental health tool kit. To register via Zoom, click here.

2.     Transformative Learning is offering free, drop-in Supplemental Instruction (SI) group study sessions in some of UK’s most challenging courses. Students can receive assistance in courses including BIO 148, COM 101, CHE 103 and more. To view the full SI session dates and times, click here.

3.     All students are invited to join Collegiate 4-H for their first meeting on Monday, September 7 at 6:30 in room 202 of The 90. No previous 4-H membership or chapter dues are required. 2.     Communications Paid Internship with the Kentucky Association for Environmental Education. KAEE is seeking an enthusiastic and creative writer to join our team and help tell our story. You will have the opportunity to work and network with professionals from across the state, from a variety of different fields. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in the nonprofit sector and an opportunity to gain experience developing marketing materials and publicity skills. If you would like to learn a lot, have fun, be inspired, have a significant impact, and work with an amazing team, we encourage you to apply. Stipend of $100 per week for an average of 15 hours per week. 3.     Mountain Sentinels Fellowship (see attached flyers in English and Spanish).   The original submission deadline has passed and we have a great applicant pool, but are hoping to have some more applicants from North America - it would be fantastic to have some applicants from Appalachia (I do think we have one right now).  This is open to students, professionals, practitioners, community members, etc.  The revised deadline is Sunday, AUGUST 23.
