Program leads to a professional degree ideal for people pursuing careers in environmental justice NGO’s, solidarity economy, and public sector. Also is a great option for people who might already have a masters in a different field and want to switch to a PhD in political ecology/degrowth.

Law Degree

Columbia Law offers an Environmental Law Clinic where students represent local, regional, and national environmental and community organizations. Program works with groups concerned about pollution, public health, wetlands preservation, and endangered species.


Duke University

Law Degree

Duke offers an Environmental Law Clinic to provide training for solving environmental problems by providing access to justice in under-served communities. Students participate in seminars and site visits, represent their clients in public hearings and agency proceedings, and are actively involved in litigation.

Requirements:

  • At least a fourth semester student

  • Can only enroll for 1 semester

  • Provide a minimum of 100hr of work to the clinic

J.D. Degree offers environmental law as a field of study. It offers views from climate change to renewable energy. Students are introduced to different theoretical perspectives on environmental regulations and land/ energy use. Offers students a summer internship and clinic work (Regulatory policy, international law, and national law).

Masters of Environmental Conservation Education (MA)

Program prepares students for a career in formal and non-formal environmental education, consulting, and nonprofit work.

J.D. program offering over forty environmental law courses. Students have access to resources such as the Global Center for Environmental Legal Studies, Energy and Climate Center, and Land Use Law Center for Sustainable Development. Student may choose to develop their skills through environmental law externships.


Portland University:

Masters of Environmental Science and Management (MS)

The program focuses on a research project with a corresponding thesis. Students have the option of focusing their studies on a designated concentration.

Core Curriculum:

  • Four core courses (16 credits) - Physical Environmental Systems, Ecological Systems, Environmental Management, and Ecological or Physical Systems.

Stanford University

Law Degree

Program offers students the opportunity to work in the Environmental Law Clinic. Clinic allows students to represent national, regional, and grassroots non-profit organizations on a variety of environmental issues. Students may choose to take courses from over forty environmentally focused options. Stanford has three student organizations interested in environmental law: Stanford Environmental Law Society, SLS Energy Club, and Stanford Environmental Law Journal.


The New School

Professional masters program focusing on professional development in leadership, problem solving, and application. Capstone project is experiential by partnering with client organizations in order to develop specific solutions and useful projects for the organizations.

Program offers students the opportunity to obtain a J.D. certificate in Environmental and Natural Resources Law, an environmental dispute resolution program, an environmental clinic and practical skills curriculum, and many environmental law courses. Students may participate in the Green Team to encourage sustainability-related behavior changes within the law school.


Vermont Law School

Law Degree

Students can earn a J.D. with a focus in environmental law. The Environmental Law Center has over 65 courses related to the environment. Students have the opportunity to work in the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Clinic, Energy Clinic, Food and Agriculture Clinic, and Land Use Clinic.


Yale University

Law Degree

Students may enter the Environmental Law program. Program offers the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy. Center offers a variety of lectures, conferences, panel discussions, webinars, and other topics. Students may also participate in the Environmental Protection Clinic to address environmental law and policy problems on the behalf of client organizations. Students may take 18 courses focused on Environmental Law. Program partners with the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

Masters of Environmental Management (MEM)

Professional focused degree that focuses on the relationships between science, management, and policy. Capstone is either a course or project.
